Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Upstream, Alhassan Doguwa, has called for full community participation to address the continuous decay in the educational sector in the North.
Doguwa made the remark at the launching of a book of the Gaya/Bagauda Old Boys Association on Sunday in Kano.
He said that the Federal Government had come out with a more desirable educational programme, and that the North needed to key into it, using community participation to rescue the sector.
He said another way of complimenting Government efforts in salvaging the region’s educational sector is individual’s participation which would include tackling the Out-of-School syndrome.
Doguwa, a former Leader of the House, said education in the North is a sorry state such that government alone cannot rescue it,hence the need for the contribution of all stakeholders.
He urged members of the Gaya/Barewa Old Boys Association to continue to support the present students of the school as well as complement the efforts of the government in in filling the financing gaps in the educational sector in the state and Nigeria.
He said that the Federal Government is up and doing in its educational support scheme such as Students Loan Scheme and some special scholarships to assist the less privileged students in the society.
The former House leader donated N5 million to the association and commended the full participation of members at the Annual General Meeting which held at the Darul Tawhid Conference Hall.
“This has added to my belief we still have people who truly care about the unfortunate educational standard in the North and I now know that together we shall rescue it and change the narrative,” he said.
