Residents of Gwagwarwa Community in Nassarawa Local Government Area (LGA) of Kano State took to the streets on Saturday, blocking the Airport Road to demand justice for the alleged killing of 23-year-old Yusuf Shuaibu.

The incident involved a military officer identified as Oga Aminu, who worked at the Nigerian Air Force Hospital in Kano.

Speaking to Journalists during the protest, Shuaibu Bala, the father of the deceased, said his son worked as a cleaner at the hospital.

He explained that on that fateful day, he said, after completing a night shift, Yusuf was about to head home when Oga Aminu instructed him to perform a task.

He continued, “After complying, Yusuf requested money to buy food, as he was exhausted and hungry. In response, Oga Aminu reportedly attacked him, leaving visible bite marks on his body,”

“Yusuf later returned home and shared the incident with friends and family.”

Tragically, when his brother checked on him, he discovered Yusuf’s lifeless body in his room.”

The grieving father emphasized that the treatment meted out to his son was inhumane and a violation of his fundamental rights.

Calling for justice, Shaibu Bala appealed to Kano State Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, Emir of Kano Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the National Human Rights Commission, and Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar to ensure accountability for the loss of his eldest son.

He stressed that the community’s protest aims to shed light on the alleged brutality and demand justice for Yusuf Shuaibu.

When contacted NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet Chief Of Air Staff, Hassan Abubakar had already ordered discreet investigation into the incident to find out the facts and bring to justice anyone found liable for the offence.

According to him, the late Mr. Yusuf Shuaibu worked as a temporary staff at the 465 NAF hospital in Kano.

“Two days ago, he had misunderstanding with an airman over insubordination and refusal to follow certain directives.”

However, he noted, that the issue was resolved amicably, and the deceased went home without showing any signs of illness.

Sadly, he said the news of his passing came in the following day.

The Director, maintained that the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has been briefed about the incident and is saddened by the loss.

“He has ordered an investigation to uncover the cause of Mr. Yusuf’s unfortunate demise.

The commanders of the hospital and NAF Base Kano have also been directed to extend his condolences to the family of the deceased. The NAF will do everything to uncover the circumstances that led to his death.”
