The wife of the Inspector General of Police, Mrs Elizabeth Egbetokun, has applauded Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s empowerment initiatives for police officers, wives and widows in the state.
Mrs Egbetokun, who doubles as President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), gave the accolade when she led wives of top police officers on a courtesy visit at the government house.
The IGP wife said the strong commitment of Governor Yusuf to uplifting the weak hands of officers’ widows has demonstrated the ingenuity of the present administration to human development.
Mrs Egbetokun stressed the willingness of POWA to partner with the Kano state government on vocational skills and sustainable empowerment for officers’ wives and disclosed the association’s mandate hinges on building self-reliance for members.

“We are committed to empowering police wives to foster peace and self-reliance. As an association, it is our mission to foster a conducive environment that enables our officers to focus on their duties. We want to partner with the Kano government to engage women in Kano to build a safe and more conducive community”. Egbetokun noted.
The President of POWA had earlier requested a piece of land from the Kano state government for the construction of POWA’s headquarters in the state.
While receiving the wives of the senior Police officers, Governor Yusuf has said Kano has enjoyed relative peace as a result of a strong commitment of the Police and other security agencies to the protection of lives and property.
Governor Yusuf said the visit of Mrs Egbetokun to Kano underscores POWA’s tireless dedication and sacrifice for better welfare of Police wives and widows in the country.
The Governor, who pledged maximum support to the humanitarian mission and sustainability of POWA projects, announced a donation of plots of land and financial assistance for the construction of POWA’s head office in Kano.
Besides, Yusuf reminded his administration’s consistent support of the logistics and welfare needs of the Kano Police command and emphasized readiness to go the extra mile to meet the basic welfare of police that would enable them to keep Kano safe and peaceful.
