A 40-year-old man identified as Yau Ari Dawa from Fulameri community in Yobe State is in police custody after reportedly stabbing his neighbour to death during a heated confrontation over suspicions of infidelity involving his wife.
According to a report by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, sources said the incident unfolded around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday night, when Dawa reportedly accused 35-year-old Mallam Faji Gana of having an affair with his 25-year-old wife, Noja Yau.
“The confrontation quickly turned violent,” the sources revealed, adding that Dawa allegedly stabbed Gana in the abdomen with a knife during the scuffle.
A nearby resident alerted authorities early Thursday morning after the altercation.
Gana was taken to the Specialist Hospital in Geidam, where he was confirmed dead upon arrival by medical staff.
Following the incident, officers from the Yobe State Police Command apprehended Dawa.
Police sources stated that the matter will be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and possible legal action.
