The Jigawa Government on Friday said it has approved over N1.4 billion for the construction and renovation of mosques across the state.
The amount will also be used for the fencing of graveyards in 30 constituencies across the state.
The allocation is coming amidst high rate of poverty and the increasing debt profile of the state.
Available data released by the National Bureau of Statistics, Jigawa state is among the top five poorest states in Nigeria, including Sokoto, Bayelsa, Gombe and Plateau States.

Besides, Jigawa is among the States in the country with a steady rise in subnational domestic debt hitting N43. 95 bn, NBC stated.
Jigawa state Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sport and Culture, Sagir Musa told newsmen in Dutse that the money was approved by the State Executive Council.
He added that part of the money would also be used to construct palaces of District Heads. According to the commissioner, the N1.4 billion is for 2023 Constituency Projects.
Prior to this development, the government has approved N10,000 wage to state and local governments’ civil servants. The government said the decision came after deliberations on the Memorandum presented by the State Head of Civil Service (HOS) for payment of salary awards to Jigawa State Civil Servants pending the release of official minimum wage.
