The Arewa Salvation Movement (ASM) today issued a press statement urging the Kano State Governor and the State House of Assembly to immediately estop the Chairman of Gwale Local Government from office. This urgent call comes in light of ongoing investigations and potential determinations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) concerning the aforementioned Chairman.
The Arewa Salvation Movement, a non-partisan organization committed to the progress and integrity of the Northern region, emphasizes the critical need to safeguard the reputation of Kano State and the esteemed office of the Governor. Allowing an individual under active investigation for potential financial impropriety to continue holding a position of public trust risks tarnishing the good name of our state and undermining the commendable efforts of His Excellency the Governor in promoting transparency and accountability.
In a statement issued and signed by its Chairman Comrade Adamu Sa’ad, Arewa Salvation Movement emphasized that reputation of Kano State and Governor is paramount which is why they deemed it fit to draw attention of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the State Assembly.
“The integrity of our local government system is paramount to the overall development and good governance of Kano State,”.
“Allowing a Local Government Chairman facing serious allegations to remain in office during an EFCC investigation sends the wrong message and could potentially obstruct the course of justice. It is imperative that the Governor and the State House of Assembly take decisive action to uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct in public service.” Comrade Sa’ad added.
The Arewa Salvation Movement believes that estopping the Gwale Local Government Chairman pending the outcome of the EFCC investigation is a necessary step to:
Protect the reputation of Kano State: Ensuring that public officials are held to the highest standards of accountability is crucial for maintaining the state’s good image.
Uphold the integrity of the Governor’s office: The Governor’s commitment to transparency and fighting corruption should be unequivocally supported by decisive action in this matter.
