The Barau Jibrin Foundation has awarded postgraduate scholarships to 300 students across Nigeria, in a major step toward promoting academic excellence and supporting students with financial needs. The scholarship program was officially launched at a flag-off ceremony held at the Bayero University, Kano (BUK) convocation arena.
The event drew dignitaries from both academic and political circles. In his opening remarks, Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin underscored the pivotal role of education in societal development.
“Education is the bedrock of every society, and it is a collective responsibility to ensure its success,” Senator Jibrin stated.
He praised BUK’s academic standing, noting, “BUK’s attainments can now be compared to any university in the world.” He also commended the university’s administration for their cooperation during the scholarship screening exercise and called for transparency throughout the process. The senator further acknowledged the efforts of BUK Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, in promoting educational excellence through collaborations with the foundation.

Delivering a goodwill message, the Chief of Staff to the Deputy Senate President, Professor Muhammad Bin Abdullahi, disclosed that all 300 beneficiaries are students of Kano origin and will be pursuing their postgraduate studies in various universities across Nigeria.
In his remarks, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas described the scholarship program as a “noble intervention and a testament to an unwavering commitment to education.” He highlighted Senator Jibrin’s significant contributions to the university and praised the initiative for empowering students and fostering a culture of problem-solving.
“This initiative demonstrates the power of education in shaping problem-solvers,” Professor Abbas said, reaffirming the university’s readiness to support similar interventions in the future.
The scholarship program is expected to relieve financial burdens on postgraduate students while encouraging excellence in higher education. Stakeholders at the event lauded the initiative and commended the Deputy Senate President for his vision in expanding educational opportunities for Nigerian youth.
