A fire outbreak has engulfed Gidan Gilas, popularly known as “Gidan Mai,” at Singa Market, in Kano metropolis destroying goods worth millions of naira.
People’s Pen24 reports that a shop, known for selling provision materials, was seen in flames as thick smoke billowed into the sky, drawing a large crowd of traders and residents struggling to salvage goods and prevent the fire from extending to adjoining structures.Kano local events
According to eyewitnesses, the fire was already spreading to other buildings, heightening anxiety at the busy market area.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire remains unknown. There was no immediate trace to what triggered the outbreak.
Officials of the Kano State Fire Service responded to the scene with a fire truck, but the water was exhausted as firefighters battled the raging flames.
Another fire truck later arrived to continue the firefighting efforts.
In a show of support, a private tanker from Aspira Nigeria Limited also arrived at the scene to assist in extinguishing the fire.
However, many traders and residents expressed concern that more water tankers are needed to fully contain the blaze and prevent further destruction.
The incident comes just a few weeks after a devastating fire outbreak at Singa Market led to significant losses to traders, compounding the hardship faced by business owners in the area.
