The Elegushi of the Ikate Elegushi Kingdom, Lagos State, Oba Saheed Elegushi, has refuted rumors linking him to the paternity of the late singer Mohbad’s son, Liam Aloba.
In a statement released through his media consultant, Deyemi Saka, the monarch dismissed the insinuations as baseless and aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
Mohbad, a former Marlian Records signee, passed away at the age of 27 in September 2023, triggering protests across the country with fans demanding justice.
Amidst the uproar, allegations of bullying by his former boss, Naira Marley, surfaced, adding fuel to the controversy.
The paternity of Mohbad’s son has been under scrutiny, especially after his father, Joseph Aloba, insisted on a paternity test. Among the reactions was the unfounded claim implicating Oba Elegushi in the paternity dispute, propagated by a TikToker.
Responding to the allegations, the monarch emphasized their falsity and revealed that a petition has been filed against those spreading them.
He extended condolences to Mohbad’s family and urged the public not to involve the traditional institution in the paternity dispute, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation and dispensation of justice.
The statement concluded with a plea for respect towards Oba Elegushi and the institution he represents, while also advocating for collaboration between the Nigeria Police and relevant international security agencies to address cyberbullying and protect fundamental human rights.
