The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing into law the bill converting the Federal Polytechnic Kabo into the Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo, in Kano State.
The President’s communication on the establishment of three new universities in Kano, Akwa Ibom, and Oyo States was read on the floor of the Senate during Tuesday’s plenary session, presided over by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio.
Senator Barau, who sponsored the bill for the conversion of the Polytechnic to a university, described the development as a significant step toward expanding access to higher education and accelerating national development through the provision of vital skills to Nigerian youths.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau emphasized the critical role of education in nation-building, describing it as the sine qua non for the progress of every society.

“As we all know, youths are the cornerstone of national development. The conversion of the Polytechnic to a University of Science and Technology aligns with global best practices. With our large youth population, human capital development is key to unlocking our economic and developmental potential,” he said.
“Globally, ICT and science-driven disciplines such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and cybersecurity are at the forefront of innovation. It is through institutions like this that we can equip our youths with the skills required to thrive in the modern world.”
Senator Barau also extended his congratulations to the management, staff, students, and host community of the former Federal Polytechnic Kabo, noting that the elevation of the institution will bring greater opportunities for learning, research, and regional development.
