Dr. Hussaini Umar Ganduje, a seasoned civil servant, political figure, and community leader, hails from Ganduje town in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State. His journey began with early Islamic education at a traditional Qur’anic school (Makarantar Allo) in his hometown, followed by primary and secondary schooling, and culminating in a doctorate degree, a testament to his dedication to academic excellence.
His foray into public service started at the grassroots level when he was elected Chairman of Dawakin Tofa Local Government under the platform of the defunct SDP/NRC. His commitment to community development and governance led to further roles in the state’s education sector. He served as Commissioner (II) with the Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), playing a key role in advancing basic education.
During the first tenure of his elder brother, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, as Governor of Kano State, Dr. Hussaini was appointed Executive Secretary of the Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board (KSSMB). From there, his distinguished career in civil service earned him a promotion to the prestigious rank of Permanent Secretary, one of the highest positions within the state bureaucracy.

Recognized for his deep-rooted commitment to education, Dr. Hussaini was later appointed Vice President (Northwest) of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), where he championed distance learning and educational accessibility in the region.
Beyond administrative roles, Dr. Hussaini has been instrumental in mentoring and supporting young people from Kano State, particularly from Ganduje and Dawakin Tofa in joining public service at local, state, and federal levels.
His political engagement remains strong, especially in Kano North Senatorial District, one of the state’s most politically active zones. He continues to play a vital role in the region’s political landscape, notably within the Gandujiyya movement.
Dr. Hussaini also has a strong connection to his Fulani heritage. He served two terms as Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Kano State. His leadership in resolving farmer-herder conflicts and promoting peaceful coexistence earned him further recognition, leading to his election as the Zonal Chairman (Northwest) of MACBAN.
In 2021, he played a pivotal role in the Fulani Enumeration Exercise in Kano State, under the umbrella of the Fulani Coalition. The exercise provided valuable data that contributed to the conceptualization of Nigeria’s first Ministry of Livestock Development under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Outside public office, Dr. Hussaini is an entrepreneur and a dedicated farmer. His strides in agriculture and business continue to empower his community and generate local employment.
Described as a goldfish with no hiding place, Dr. Hussaini Umar Ganduje’s impact on the lives of many particularly the youth is profound. He is widely regarded as a mentor, advocate, and bridge between generations, consistently championing development, empowerment, and service to humanity.
With a civil service and political career spanning decades, Dr. Hussaini stands out as a figure of sacrifice, integrity, and transformative leadership, a true son of Kano State and a beacon of public service.
