The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken action by barricading the residence of Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, located in Wuse, Abuja.
This move follows recent meetings between Bello and President Bola Tinubu at the State House, as reported by SaharaReporters.
The siege has resulted in restricted movement in and around the property on Benghazi Street, Wuse Zone 4, in the federal capital. Operatives of the EFCC have blocked access to the house, as confirmed by sources familiar with the situation.
While the reason behind the EFCC’s action has not been officially disclosed, it is speculated to be linked to the ongoing N84 billion fraud case against Bello.
The commission had previously charged him with financial fraud amounting to N84 billion, alleging misappropriation of state funds dating back to September 2015, before he assumed office.
Additionally, Bello’s nephew, Ali Bello, has been arraigned by the EFCC for alleged money laundering amounting to N10 billion belonging to the state government.

However, the state government has refuted these allegations, labeling them as “ridiculous” and challenging the credibility of the EFCC’s accusations.
In a statement issued earlier this year, the state government criticized the EFCC, accusing the agency of deviating from its mandate and undermining the government’s efforts to combat corruption.
Despite the charges and legal proceedings, former Governor Yahaya Bello remains at large, while his co-accused individuals have pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
The case continues to unfold in the Federal High Court, Maitama, Abuja, amidst heightened scrutiny and public interest.
