Kano state governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was notably absent at this year’s Hawan Nasarawa, as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Jibril Isma’il Falgore, received the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, at the Government House in Kano.
People’s Pen24 reports that a statement issued by Ibrahim Adam, Special Adviser to the governor on Information, said that Governor Yusuf had travelled to Lagos for a Progressive Governors Forum meeting today in Lagos.
Those in attendace at the event include the SSG, Commissioners, Local Government Chairmen and other top government officials.
The Hawan Nasarawa, a key cultural highlight of the Eid celebrations in Kano, was held in a modified format this year following earlier restrictions imposed by the state government on several Hawan Sallah activities.Kano City Guide
The government had approved only Hawan Nasarawa, citing security considerations, while directing that it be conducted in a limited manner.
In the governor’s absence, Speaker Falgore represented the state government, formally receiving Emir Sanusi and his entourage in line with tradition.
