The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone One Headquarters, Kano, AIG Ahmed Ammani, fdc, has reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring the safety of schools across the country. He made this statement while representing the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, at the launch of the Stakeholders’ Forum and Training of the School Protection Squad in Jigawa State on Thursday, March 6, 2025.
In his address, AIG Ammani described the event as a milestone in the efforts to safeguard educational institutions. He emphasized that the Safe Schools Initiative, introduced by the IGP, is aimed at fostering a culture of security for students, teachers, school staff, and the broader community.
“Our schools are not only centers of knowledge but also breeding grounds for the future leaders of our nation. Their security is directly linked to the security of our future. Therefore, it is our duty to protect them against all forms of threats,” AIG Ammani stated.

As part of this initiative, he directed all Commissioners of Police within the Zone to engage stakeholders in discussions to strengthen school security. He stressed the need for collaboration between educational authorities, community leaders, law enforcement agencies, and other security stakeholders to ensure schools are adequately protected.
The AIG further highlighted that the School Protection Squad will undergo specialized training to equip them with the necessary skills to identify and respond to security threats. Additionally, modern technology and intelligence-led policing will be deployed to enhance proactive security measures around schools.
In conclusion, AIG Ammani called on parents, school authorities, and communities to work closely with security agencies to sustain a safe learning environment.
“We must collectively invest our efforts, resources, and commitment to fostering a culture of safety in our schools. The well-being of our children must remain a top priority,” he urged.
The event continued with brainstorming sessions involving diverse stakeholders across Jigawa State to develop actionable strategies for school security.
