The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed February 20, 2027, for the next presidential election.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, announced the date at a press briefing in Abuja on Friday.
He also revealed that the National Assembly election would hold Saturday, 20th February, 2027 while governorship and state Houses of Assembly will take place 6th March.
Nigeria conducts presidential elections every four years in line with constitutional provisions that set a fixed tenure for elected officials.
The last presidential election was held on February 25, 2023, with the outcome ushering in a new administration after a highly contested nationwide poll.
The announcement of an election date by the electoral umpire typically signals the beginning of formal preparations for the next electoral cycle, including political party primaries, voter registration updates, and logistics planning across the country’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Political parties, aspirants, and stakeholders are expected to begin consultations and strategising ahead of the 2027 contest, which will determine the next occupant of the presidency.
