The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 15 suspects, comprising 14 Chinese nationals and one Nigerian, at four illegal lithium processing plants in Ogere, Ogun State.
The commission disclosed this in a statement on its verified X handle, detailing the operation carried out by operatives of its Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 on Friday, October 23, 2026, following what it described as credible intelligence and surveillance.
According to the EFCC, the operatives recovered bags of lithium rocks, 18 mobile devices, four laptop computers, two decoders, a television remote control and a trailer truck during the operation.
The commission said the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
People’s Pen24 reports that lithium is a critical mineral used in the manufacture of rechargeable batteries, including those used in electric vehicles and electronic devices.
