Just in: Kano Rerun: INEC Suspends Kunchi/Tsanyawa Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the suspension of ongoing rerun election in Kunchi/Tsanyawa state constituency of Kano state.

 

INEC announced the suspension of its verified X handle on Saturday and signed by national commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter education committee, Sam Olumekun.

 

According to INEC, the decision to suspend the election follows the invasion, vandalization and destruction of electoral materials in the 10 polling units by suspected thugs.

” The decision of the commission aligns with the provisions of section 24 (3) of the electoral act 2022. Further necessary measures of the affected constituencies will be announced after the commission’s meeting on Monday.

 

” INEC invites security agencies to investigate the incident while the commission commit to thoroughly interrogating any breaches involving its officials”.

The suspension also affects two other constituencies in Akwa-Ibom and Enugu States.

 

The Commission had earlier raised alarm of invasion and hijack of its electoral materials in the constituencies mentioned above.

 

Nevertheless, official results duly signed by INEC returning officers in Kunchi and Tsanyawa have emerged on the social media indicating the victory of a particular party.
