The Kano State House of Assembly (KNHA) has passed the Kano State Social Protection Agency Bill, 2025, paving the way for the establishment of an agency dedicated to supporting the most vulnerable groups in the state.
The bill was passed during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Alhaji Jibril Isma’il Falgore, following extensive deliberations on the floor of the House.
The proposed Social Protection Agency will provide support to less privileged individuals, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups, offer healthcare, education, and job creation services to enhance citizens’ well-being, reduce poverty and social vulnerability among Kano State residents.

Speaking to journalists after the plenary, Majority Leader Alhaji Lawan Hussaini Dala explained that once assented to, the agency will be headed by a Director-General with experience in social services. Additionally, it will have a Board of Trustees comprising representatives from various ministries and partner organizations.
“The agency is expected to play a crucial role in improving the living conditions of Kano State residents,” he stated.
