The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council, has restored its digital television services with the successful reinstallation of DSTV facilities at its secretariat, alongside the installation of a 5G ODU Airtel internet router to boost connectivity for members.
The dual intervention is expected to enhance access to live news, current affairs, global events, and reliable internet resources for journalists covering various beats in the state.
Speaking during the activation exercise, the Chairman of the Chapel, Murtala Adewale said the move was part of the leadership’s commitment to improving the working environment of members and ensuring they have access to modern tools that support accurate and efficient reporting.
“Journalism thrives on information. In this digital age, television platforms like DSTV provide instant access to developments across Nigeria and the world, while fast and reliable internet ensures that our members can verify, research, and file stories without hindrance. These facilities are therefore not just about comfort, but about equipping correspondents with vital tools for balanced reporting,” he stated.
He added that the chapel would sustain such welfare-driven projects to improve members’ professional well-being and productivity.
Members who spoke on the development commended the leadership for the initiative, noting that both the DSTV and the 5G internet service would serve as important resources for news tracking, fact-checking, and general newsroom conversations.
The Correspondents’ Chapel has in recent months introduced several welfare programmes, including the renovation of its secretariat and provision of working facilities aimed at strengthening camaraderie and enhancing members’ output.
The restoration of DSTV services and the installation of the 5G internet router further speaks of the chapel’s resolve to modernize its facilities and align with global best practices in journalism.
