The Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the setting up of a Technical Committee to address the ongoing problem of poor employment representation of Kano State indigenes in federal government agencies, as well as private and voluntary institutions operating within the state.

According to the statement issued by Musa Tanko Muhammad Press Secretary,

SSG’s Office, Kano, the committee was inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim, at his office.

During the event, the SSG expressed concern over the continued denial of employment opportunities to Kano indigenes, despite the state being the most populous in Nigeria. He said Kano has not been given its fair share of jobs, even in institutions located within the state.

Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim noted that the number of unemployed youths in Kano is very high and believed to be more than in any other state. According to him, this situation makes it very important for the government to act quickly and decisively.

“This is the right time to reclaim what truly belongs to us,” the SSG said, adding that the moment is right for meaningful action.

He explained that the committee was carefully selected and made up of experienced individuals with strong backgrounds in public service. He highlighted the Chairman of the committee, Dr. Danyaro Ali Yakasai, the Special Adviser on Policy and Social Development, noting that during his time as head of a paramilitary organization, he helped facilitate the employment of many youths into federal government institutions.

The committee is co-chaired by Dr. Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, Special Adviser on Human Resource.

Other members include Salisu Mustapha, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Head of Civil Service; Ibrahim Muhammad Kabara, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties; Hon. Ali Yahuza Gano, Special Adviser on Metropolitan Affairs; Alhaji Salisu A. Kabo, Director General, Youth Empowerment; and Hon. Ado Muhammad Wudil, Executive Secretary, Guidance and Counselling Board. The committee’s work will be coordinated by Salisu Musa Aliyu,Principal Assistant Secretary in the REPA Directorate of the SSG’s Office.

The committee will review employment practices in federal, private, and voluntary institutions operating in Kano State. It will identify how many Kano indigenes are currently employed, engage relevant institutions on employment rules, and work with the Federal Character Commission to ensure fairness and compliance with existing regulations. The goal is to develop practical and lasting solutions that will improve employment opportunities for Kano State indigenes.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, the Chairman, Dr. Danyaro Ali Yakasai, thanked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the trust placed in the team.

He assured that members would work hard to justify the confidence given to them and called on the people of Kano State to support the committee with prayers and cooperation.

The committee is expected to submit its report within four weeks.
