The Chairperson of the Kano State Prerogative of the Mercy Committee, Hajiya Azumi Namadi Bebeji, has extended warm New Year greetings to inmates across all custodial centres in Kano State.

Nigerian Correctional Service Kano State said in her message, Hajiya Azumi prayed for a peaceful, hopeful, and prosperous year for the inmates and reassured them of the Kano State Government’s continued commitment to their welfare and well-being.
She emphasized that the administration of Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, places high priority on compassion and humane treatment of inmates.
She urged inmates to remain law-abiding and prayerful, while also offering prayers for peace, unity, and progress in Kano State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The Chairperson highlighted the Committee’s collaboration with stakeholders in the criminal justice system to ensure lawful, transparent, and humane decongestion of custodial centres.
She further encouraged inmates to actively participate in vocational skills training and educational programmes, describing them as essential tools for self-reliance and successful reintegration after release.
Hajiya Azumi noted that the impact of rehabilitation programmes is already evident, with some inmates contributing financially to their families, including supporting children’s education and family events.
Meanwhile, the Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, CC Ado Inuwa, commended the Prerogative of the Mercy Committee for its sustained efforts toward humane correctional practices and custodial decongestion.
CC Ado Inuwa emphasized that strong collaboration among criminal justice stakeholders remains vital for achieving sustainable decongestion and effective rehabilitation in Kano State.
