Senator representing Kano Central, Rufai Sani Hanga have been dragged before an Upper Sharia Court over alleged unsettled ₦124,800,070 to his political associates.
The controversial fund was said to have been incurred while rendering political campaign service for the Senator.
The plaintiffs in the civil case included one Isa Ado Medoya and several others of the New Nigerian Peoples Party NNPP, claim they executed agreed campaign assignments during the senator’s electioneering period but have yet to be paid.
When the case up for hearing before Sharia Judge Muhammad Sani, counsel to the plaintiffs Abbas Mandawari outlining the basis of the claim.
According to the plaintiffs’ Lawyer, the amount being demanded represents payment for services rendered in the course of the senator’s campaign activities.
Mandawari, presented documents and samples said to demonstrate how the work was carried out.
He told the court that further consultations with his clients were necessary to properly organize additional materials and, therefore, requested more time for verification.
Counsel to the defendant opposed the request, arguing that the plaintiffs appeared unprepared to proceed with substantive arguments.
He urged the court to dismiss the suit, contending that the delay suggested a lack of readiness to prosecute the matter diligently.
However, the court declined the application for dismissal, ruling instead that the plaintiffs should be granted additional time to consolidate their filings.
The judge emphasized the need to allow both parties adequate opportunity to present their cases fully.
The matter was subsequently adjourned to April 21, 2026, when the plaintiffs are expected to submit their complete documentation, after which the defendant’s counsel will present a formal response.
Senator Hanga, NNPP, recently recovered his campaign vehicles from his supporters who decamped to APC along side Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and several others.
Hanga, the only NNPP senator in the Senate and deputy minority whip has vehemently stood with leader of Kwankwasiiyya and former Kano Governor , Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in the political realignment hit Kano.
Hanga who considered Governor Yusuf’s defection has height of betrayal to Kwankwaso has vowed to remain in the factional opposition party .
