KASSOPP Urges Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to Expedite Assent to Social Protection Agency Bill

The Kano State Social Protection Platform (KASSOPP) has called on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to promptly assent to the recently passed Social Protection Agency Bill, emphasizing its critical role in addressing social welfare challenges in the state.

The Chairman of KASSOPP, Malam Salisu Yusuf, made this appeal during an interview with journalists in Kano. He described the establishment of the agency as long overdue, stressing that it would significantly strengthen the state’s social protection system and improve the lives of vulnerable groups.

According to him, the Kano State House of Assembly’s passage of the bill is a major milestone in institutionalizing social protection policies that will directly benefit the underprivileged and marginalized communities.

“This bill has been highly anticipated by many stakeholders and citizens. Its passage by the state assembly is a commendable move, and we now urge the governor to give it speedy assent. Once signed into law, the Social Protection Agency will provide a structured and coordinated approach to tackling poverty, supporting the less privileged, and reinforcing social safety nets,” he stated.

Malam Salisu Yusuf further explained that the agency, once operational, will serve as the central body for managing and implementing various social intervention programs. He emphasized that government initiatives focused on poverty reduction, education, healthcare, and economic empowerment will be more effective under a properly coordinated framework.

He also called on civil society organizations, development partners, and policymakers to advocate for the law’s swift implementation, ensuring that its objectives are realized without delay.

With the bill now awaiting the governor’s assent, Kano State is on the verge of joining other states that have institutionalized social protection frameworks aimed at enhancing citizens’ welfare, reducing inequalities, and promoting inclusive development.
