The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl in Bursari Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Damaturu.
He said the suspect, Habu Haruna of Rainikunu Garu Dole Village, was arrested by operatives attached to the Garin Alkali Divisional Police Headquarters on Saturday.
According to him, the suspect allegedly lured the victim into a nearby bush, where he committed the offence.
“The victim was immediately taken to a medical facility for examination, treatment, and necessary psychosocial support, while the investigation continues,” Abdulkarim said.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Usman Kamfani Jibrin, had directed a thorough investigation into the case and assured that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The commissioner condemned sexual violence against children, describing it as cruel, inhumane, and unacceptable.
He urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and promptly report cases of abuse to security agencies.
