The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), on Saturday, distributed relief items to 553 households affected by windstorm in the state.
The relief items were distributed to the disaster victims in Minjibir and Gabasawa Local Government Areas of the state.
Kano state Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi, applauded the Federal Government quick intervention.
He urged residents of the state to desist from dumping of waste on water ways and keep a clean environment to avert flooding.
The Director-General of the NEMA, Hajiya Zubaida Umar, said the gesture was part of the federal government’s intervention to assuage the sufferings of the affected persons.
Umar, who was represented by NEMA Coordinator, Kano Territorial Office, Dr Nuraddeen Abdullahi, said that food and non-food items were made available to those affected by windstorm on May 29, 2024.
“We understand the deep pain and loss that have been inflicted upon these communities.
“While these items can not fully compensate for the damage and losses you have suffered, they are a small gesture to show that the federal government stands with you in your time of need” she said
She listed the food items to include 1,450 bags of 25kg rice; 1,450 bags of 25kg maize, 100 cartons of vegetable oil, 100 cartons of seasoning and 100 bags of iodized salt.
Others were 1,450 blankets; 1,450 mats and 1,450 nets.
Also, Isyaku Abdullahi-Kubarachi, the Executive Secretary, Kano State Emergency Management Agency(SEMA), urged the beneficiaries to use the items for their households.
One of the beneficiaries, Laure Yahaya, commended the gesture, adding that it would cushion the hardship ocassioned by the disaster.
