NYA Laments Persistent Power Outages in Kano, Urges Urgent Intervention

The Northern Youth Assembly (NYA), Kano State Chapter, has expressed deep concern over the worsening electricity situation in the state.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Sulaiman Idris, and made available to newsmen, the NYA noted that the persistent power outages being experienced by residents and businesses have caused immense hardship, slowed economic activities, and diminished the overall quality of life across the state.

“This critical situation reflects the continued failure of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) to effectively distribute power within the state,” the statement read. “It also highlights the Federal Government’s unfulfilled promises of ensuring a stable and reliable power supply for Nigerians.”

The group lamented that despite repeated assurances from relevant authorities, the reality on the ground remains far from acceptable.

“We, therefore, use this medium to call upon stakeholders including community leaders, energy experts, and policymakers to urgently convene and deliberate on sustainable solutions to Kano’s electricity crisis. This issue demands immediate attention and coordinated efforts at all levels,” the statement added.

The NYA also issued a strong appeal to wealthy individuals, investors, and industrialists within Kano, the Northern region, and across Nigeria, urging them to invest in independent power generation and distribution companies.

“Kano needs innovative, localized solutions to meet its growing electricity demand,” the group stressed.

The NYA reiterated its belief that with unity, innovation, and strategic investment, Kano can overcome its electricity challenges and become a model for other regions in Nigeria.
