A Senior Special Assistant to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has refuted claims that the former Kano State governor disrespected a police officer in a recent viral video.
The aide, Aminu Dahiru Ahmad, who oversees visual communications and events, described the report as a calculated attempt by political opponents to tarnish Ganduje’s image. The circulating video shows a police officer appearing to adjust the shoelace of Dr. Ganduje, prompting criticism online.
Ahmad clarified that the officer was simply untangling the shoelace to ensure the safety of the APC chairman, dismissing the incident as being blown out of proportion by what he termed “mischief makers.”
“This was not an act of disrespect, but rather a demonstration of the concern and responsibility shown by a security orderly towards the safety of his principal,” he said.

Ahmad emphasized that Ganduje maintains a respectful and friendly relationship with his aides and staff.
“Those who know His Excellency can confirm that he is one of the most decent and approachable political leaders in Nigeria,” he stated. “He treats everyone around him — from aides to domestic workers — with kindness and dignity.”
He added that in his nearly ten years of working with Ganduje, he has always been treated like family.
“This is a man who does not encourage sycophancy. He’s down-to-earth and focused on service,” Ahmad said.
Describing the video as a distraction, he accused opposition figures of trying to exploit the incident for political gain.
“It’s a desperate attempt to generate controversy where none exists. The public should disregard the false narrative being pushed,” he added.
Ahmad expressed confidence that Ganduje’s reputation and popularity remain intact, pointing to his leadership as APC chairman and growing support for the party.
“The APC is gaining ground under his leadership, especially following the recent defections of key figures like Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Vice Presidential candidate Ifeanyi Okowa. This progress is what the opposition fears,” he reiterated.
