Tensions have escalated in Eleme, Rivers State, after a section of the Eleme Local Government Council secretariat was set on fire.
Former Ambassador Oji Ngofa, a native of Eleme, confirmed the incident during a phone conversation.
The newly elected chairman, Brian Gokpa, arrived at the secretariat with councilors and supporters, only to discover parts of the building engulfed in flames.
No arrests have been made so far, and the police have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
As investigations are underway, concerns are mounting about the potential outbreak of violence in Eleme and other local councils in the state.
