Editor, Peoplespen24, Jemilat Adewale has felicitated with Murtala Adewale on his appointment as new Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kano Correspondent Chapel.
The new executives emerged after a keenly contested but successful conduct of its long-awaited chapel elections held on Tuesday at the NUJ Press Centre in Kano.
Adewale, a correspondent of The Guardian newspapers in Kano polled 17 votes to defeat Ahmad Sorondinki of ThisDay newspapers who scored 12 votes.

In a congratulatory message, the editor of Peoplespen24, extended heartfelt congratulations to the new Chairman of Correspondent Chapel, describing his emergence as well-deserved.

Announcing the results, Chairman of the Credentials Committee, Fanen Ihyongo, commended members for their peaceful conduct and steadfast commitment to democratic ideals.
In other contested positions, Salihu Ali of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) emerged as Assistant Secretary with 16 votes, defeating Khadija Aliyu of FRCN, who scored 13 votes. Longtong Yakubu of Leadership Newspapers was elected Auditor with 17 votes, edging out her opponent who polled 12 votes.
Three other positions were filled unopposed. Yusuf Bala of VON was elected Vice Chairman, Salim Umar Ibrahim of Daily Trust as Secretary, while Bashir Bello of Vanguard and Ramatu Garba of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) were elected Treasurer and Financial Secretary respectively.
The Acting Chairman of the NUJ Kano State Council, Mustapha Gambo, who represented the State Council Chairman, Suleiman Dederi, presented certificates of return to the newly elected officials.
In his acceptance speech, newly elected Chairman Murtala Adewale described his victory as the beginning of a new chapter. He pledged to foster unity, professional development, and improved welfare for members.
“This is a mandate for change, inclusion, and collective progress. I promise to carry everyone along and work to elevate the profile and professionalism of our chapel,” he said.
Mustapha Gambo lauded the chapel for conducting a peaceful and transparent election, and urged the new leadership to remain accountable and inclusive in the discharge of their duties.
In his farewell remarks, outgoing Secretary Mustapha Hodi congratulated the new executive team, expressing confidence that they will sustain the achievements of the past and push the chapel toward greater accomplishments.
Also extending her congratulations, Jemilat Adewale, Editor of PeoplesPen24, described Murtala Adewale’s emergence as well deserved.
