The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, Aliyu Adamu, for the brutal murder of his close associate and childhood friend, Dahiru Musa. The tragic incident, reportedly motivated by greed and betrayal, occurred in Gaida Yan-Kusa Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.

The deceased, Dahiru Musa, also known as “Alhaji Senior” or “Baba Alhaji,” was an estate manager. According to the police, Aliyu Adamu confessed that he killed his friend with the intention of converting Dahiru’s landed property to his own, as he was in possession of the land documents.

The suspect was arrested alongside two accomplices, Mubarak Abdulsalam, 20, and Sadiq Sunusi, 19, who allegedly helped him carry out the gruesome act and dispose of the body.

The spokesperson of the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, that Aliyu lured Dahiru to his house under the pretense of negotiating a land business deal.

Upon arrival, the suspect served Dahiru poisoned food, which rendered him unconscious. Aliyu and Mubarak then stabbed Dahiru to death with knives, packed the body in a sack, and dumped it at an uncompleted building near Aliyu’s house.

The incident came to light on September 29, 2024, when a resident of Dorayi Quarters, Kano, reported that his brother, Dahiru Musa, had gone missing. The family strongly suspected Aliyu Adamu, who was the last known person to have been in contact with the victim before his disappearance.

“On 29/09/2024 at about 07:30 pm, a report was received from a resident of Dorayi Quarters, Kano, that his brother, Dahiru Musa, 32 years old,’m’, of the same address, was missing. They strongly suspected one of his close associates, Aliyu Adamu, 22 years old,’m’, of Gaida Yan-Kusa Quarters, Kumbotso LGA, Kano State, who happened to be his last contact before he went missing,” the statement read.

Following the report, a team of detectives launched an investigation and arrested Aliyu Adamu the next day. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and revealed that he conspired with Mubarak Abdulsalam to lure Dahiru to his house and poison him. When Dahiru fell unconscious, they stabbed him to death.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Mubarak, who confessed that after learning of Aliyu’s arrest, he conspired with another accomplice, Sadiq Sunusi, to burn the body using petrol in an attempt to destroy evidence.

The remains were later recovered and taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital, Kano, for an autopsy.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, commended the public for their support and cooperation in providing information that led to the arrest of the suspects.

He also cautioned residents to exercise vigilance and to ensure they are accompanied by appropriate individuals when engaging in business or social meetings, particularly in secluded areas.

The three suspects are currently in custody at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Homicide Section, and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
