The Katsina State Police Command has foiled a kidnapping attempt in Dandume community, neutralised a suspected bandit and recovered a general-purpose machine gun.
The operation, led by the Dandume Divisional Police Officer, DPO, and bolstered by personnel from Operations Sharan Daji and Restore Peace, unfolded on January 25, 2024, around 7:30 pm. Acting on intelligence reports about armed bandits approaching Dandume with dangerous weapons, the police team promptly mobilised and intercepted the criminals.
A fierce gunfight ensued, forcing the bandits to retreat and thwarting their kidnapping mission.
Following the engagement, a thorough search of the scene led to the discovery of the body of one suspected bandit. Recovered from the criminals was a general-purpose machine gun loaded with 27 rounds of 94.5mm live ammunition, highlighting the potential danger that was averted.
Katsina State Commissioner of Police Aliyu Abubakar Musa commended the officers involved in the operation. He praised their bravery, dedication, and professionalism, emphasising their key role in protecting the lives and property of the community.
Urging members of the public to continue their vital role in supporting security efforts, he encouraged the people of Katsina State to provide timely information on suspicious activities to the police and other security agencies. This collaboration, he said, would enable swift and decisive action against criminal elements in the state.
