Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbedokun has warned senior police officers against engaging in any form of corruption and criminal acts that could bring the force into disrepute, threatening punitive measures against offenders.
IGP Egbedokun specifically cautioned divisional and tactical commanders across police formations to desist from the consistent extortion of innocent members of the public.
In a strong wordered message of caution to senior police officers delivered by Kano Commissioner of Police (CP) Ibrahim Adamu Bakori while addressing them on Monday, the IGP insisted that any officers caught in the illicit acts would be sanctioned.
The IGP lamented the persistent use of police officers to provide cover for land grabbers, stressed that police must henceforth distance themselves from all land disputes and related matters, instead such disputes should be referred to the courts.
Egbedokun also ordered the immediate dismantling of all unauthorized roadblocks and checkpoints outside Kano metropolis, citing frequent attacks on officers on patrol and the seizure of their weapons.
Meanwhile, CP Bakori disclosed that the Kano Command has broken several robbery gangs, arresting 108 suspects and recovering dangerous weapons and illicit drugs.
Briefing journalists on the successes achieved in crime prevention over the past month in the state, CP Bakori revealed that Tramadol and Pregabalin tablets worth N82,725,000.00 were recovered in Rimin Auzinawa Quarters, Kano, and will soon be handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution.
“In compliance with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbedokun, PhD, NPM, on adopting community-centered, proactive crime prevention strategies ahead of the fourth and festive quarters of the year, the Kano State Police Command has intensified its strategic initiatives, particularly through Operation Kukan Kura.
“This operation has been instrumental in curbing all forms of criminal activities and fostering a safer environment for everyone in the state. Operation Kukan Kura tackles all forms of crime and criminality in Kano State, with active participation from members of the public.
“By leveraging intelligence and technology, the Command has been able to stay ahead of criminal elements and respond effectively to emerging security challenges. With a significant reduction in crime, the Command has achieved notable breakthroughs within just one month,” CP Bakori noted
