A 400-level student of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL), Niger State, Isma’il Ishaq Magaji, has died after he was struck by a stray bullet during a land dispute in his hometown.
Magaji, who was studying Public Administration, was reportedly hit by the bullet in Wawa, Borgu Local Government Area of the state.
The university disclosed the incident in a statement issued by its Deputy Registrar, Information, Alhaji Baba Akote, in Lapai on Saturday.
According to the statement, the deceased was caught in the incident arising from a land dispute in the community.
Akote conveyed the condolences of the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Sulaiman, to the deceased’s family, friends, classmates and associates.
Sulaiman described the incident as distressing and a painful loss to the university community.
He prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, grant him eternal rest, and provide his family and loved ones with the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
The Vice-Chancellor also appealed to the communities involved in the dispute to embrace dialogue, exercise restraint and prioritise peaceful coexistence to prevent further loss of lives and unnecessary bloodshed
