The circumstances surrounding the death of 22-year-old Afrofuji artiste, Afeez Adesina, popularly known as Destiny Boy, have been clarified following the release of an autopsy report.
According to a report by Daily Trust, the singer passed away on January 17, 2026, in a case that had generated intense public speculation and reactions across social media platforms.
In the days after his death, videos surfaced online showing what appeared to be his body being moved to a mortuary, fuelling widespread rumours. His family later disclosed that he had been dealing with a prolonged health condition linked to seizures, for which both medical and traditional remedies were sought.
However, findings from the Ogun State Police Command have provided further insight into the cause of death. The command confirmed that the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department carried out an autopsy, which detected dangerous levels of tramadol and its metabolites, along with methamphetamine, in his system.
The report concluded that the cause of death was aspiration pneumonitis resulting from the ingestion of these toxic substances.
DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, Police Public Relations Officer, told Daily Trust that one suspect has been arrested in connection with the case, and investigations are ongoing.
Destiny Boy rose to fame in 2019 after releasing a Fuji rendition of Davido’s “If.” He later gained recognition for covering songs by Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor. His discography also includes original tracks such as Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan, and Lowkey.
The late singer welcomed his first child with his partner, Iremide, in November 2024.
The autopsy findings have now addressed months of uncertainty and debate surrounding the sudden death of the fast-rising music star.
