The Director General of the National Productivity Centre (NPC), Dr. Baffa Babba Dan Agundi, has expressed optimism that The Progressive Institute (TPI) will play a crucial role in promoting progressive governance and enhancing good leadership across Nigeria.

Dr. Dan Agundi made this assertion during a courtesy visit by the management team of TPI to his office in Abuja last Thursday. The delegation was led by TPI’s Director General, Dr. Lanre Adebayo.

During the visit, Dr. Adebayo introduced the institute’s mission and objectives, seeking strategic collaboration with NPC in delivering TPI’s mandate. He was accompanied by Malam Muhammad Sanusi Kiru, Director of Program and Training; Barrister Ego Queen-Ezuma, Director of Legal Services; Dr. Ibo Basey, Director of Finance and Account; as well as other senior officials of the institute.

Highlighting TPI’s achievements and challenges, Dr. Adebayo stated that the establishment of the institute under the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a significant milestone for Nigeria. According to him, TPI is positioned to drive the ideals of progressive governance, build capacity among Nigerians, and instill progressive ideology in public officeholders at both the national and grassroots levels.

“With the support of our leader and National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, TPI successfully hosted a National Conference on Skills Acquisition and the Challenges of Unemployment. The report and blueprint from that conference are ready and will soon be formally presented to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.

Dr. Adebayo also hinted at upcoming initiatives, including an Ideology Conference and the development of an APC Curriculum. He noted that working documents are already in place and committees comprising party stakeholders and political scholars are being formed to ensure a well-grounded ideological framework.

“These initiatives will culminate in a National Discourse where the draft policy will be reviewed and approved. The goal is to strengthen democratic dividends and political education across the country,” he added.

Speaking during the meeting, Malam Sanusi Kiru revealed that TPI had secured training programs in Katsina and Jigawa states, with similar initiatives planned for Niger and Nasarawa states. He emphasized that such efforts will help accelerate democratic development nationwide.

In his response, Dr. Baffa Babba Dan Agundi pledged NPC’s support for TPI, noting the alignment of both organizations’ mandates.

“TPI and NPC are partners in progress. I foresee TPI being mandated to provide training and certification for individuals aspiring to hold positions within the APC. I will fully support and sponsor such training programs aimed at improving the capacity and performance of our party officials,” he stated.

Other attendees at the meeting included Malam Wale Abideen, TPI Head of Media, and Mr. Hassan Muhammad Bello, TPI Head of Protocol.

The visit and its outcomes were conveyed in a statement issued by Wale Abideen, Head of Media and Strategic Communication, TPI, and made available to The People’s Pen newspaper.
