The United Nations Children’s Funds (UNICEF), has urged stakeholders working to actualize social protection policies in Kano to rededicate themselves to the success of the projects.
Social Policy Specialist UNICEF, Kano Field Office Fatimah Musa made the call during a one-day workshop aimed at strengthening collaboration between public financial management and social protection programmes, supported by UNICEF in collaboration with Kano State Ministry of Planning and Budget.

Fatimah Musa said the meeting is important to educate the key stakeholders and members of technical working groups on the benefit of social protection interventions in society.
“The workshop aims to review the implementation plan of social protection policies in the first quarter of 2024, to monitor and evaluate the successes that have been achieved.
“We have so far discussed several points with the members of the technical working group, fashion-out ways that will help us achieve our mission of protecting the welfare and lives of vulnerable groups”, Fatimah Musa.
The Social Policy Specialist then urged the members of TWG to revisit their budgetary provisions for social protection interventions in their various MDAs which is key to actualizing the set goals.
“There is a need for members of the TWG to follow up and know the budgetary provisions of their MDAs on social protection to start implementing the projects to the target group”.
“At this meeting, we have tried to review the status of public spending for the 1st quarter of the 2024 fiscal year to avoid encountering problems”.
Fatimah Musa, Social Policy Specialist, in her presentation, highlighted the 2024 social protection for the Kano field office, which will have universal child benefits.
“These include supporting the younger ones at earlier ages between 1 and 18, education, water, and sanitation among others”.
UNICEF Kano field office promised to work closely with the members of the technical group to cover all the targets for 2024.
Stakeholders from different MDAs of the state attended the workshop and promised to call the attention of the Government to contribute more to social protection projects.
Reports indicate that over 20 billion naira was set aside for social protection interventions in Kano.
