The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested seven suspected cross-dressers at popular social joint in the city centre following a night raid.
The suspects were apprended during a routine raid moved by intelligent report intimating an alleged illicit activities at the joint along Zoo Road in Kano.
Deputy Commander General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Mujahid Aminudeen Abubakar, who confirmed the development revealed the suspects were all teenagers under the age of 23, added that the board will sooner seal off the joint.
Sheikh Mujahid explained that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects came from Kogi, Bauchi, and Kano States to perpetrate their illicit act.
He further disclosed that during the operation, Hisbah operatives also apprehended a young man and a woman found together inside a tricycle, while another lady reported missing was traced to Sokoto and reunited with her parents.
He said suspects and the operators of the facility, will be handed over to relevant authorities for further action. Sheikh Mujahid reaffirmed Hisbah’s commitment to eradicating all forms of social vices in the state and urged members of the public to report any concerns or suspicious activities to Hisbah or other appropriate authorities.
Recall the Board recently effected similar arrest of six cross-dressers who were suspected of engaging in homosexuality in the Gaida area in Kumbotso LGA. The suspects were apprehended after public complaints from residents.
On the previous arrest, the board disclosed that the accused persons confessed to their actions and appealed for leniency.
Dissatisfied with the excuses, however, the board directed for appropriate action against them after investigation completed. However, the board has silence on the prosecution of those earlier arrested and whether or not the suspects found guilty.
