The management of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, in Kano, has suspended a lecturer accused of subjecting  200-level students of the institution to physical torture.

The Peoplespen24 reported a petition filed by a Kano-based Lawyer against the university after the viral video of the said lecturer where he was seen forcing his student to corporal Punishment.

The said victims were asked to go through the painful torture amid the entire class during lecture having been accused of obstructing the lecture with noise.

The video generated a lot of controversy and condemnation as it was never expected of a tertiary institution.

Reacting to the development, in a statement by Sai’du Abdullahi Nayaya, Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations Unit, the university management said the lecturer was identified, queried, and suspended.

The statement titled ‘’Re: Viral video on students maltreatment,’’ said the staff in question after the suspension would face the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee for further action.

The statement read,’’ The management is hereby assuring parents and guardians and the general public that the welfare and safety of the students are topmost and any breach by whosoever will not be tolerated and go unpunished.’’

‘’The management is also assuring that it will continue to provide conducive learning conditions to the students for them to graduate successfully at the end of their studies.’’ the statement read.

Prior to the suspension of the university teacher, a Kano based legal practitioner, Abba Hikima wrote an open letter challenging the legality of the action of the lecturer in the confine of university laws.

Barrister Hikima urged the university authority to urgently institute an institution on the action that already brought the university to disrepute.
