Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Gaya Polytechnic, an institution designed to stimulate rapid educational and economic development within the emirate.
This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Thursday.
According to the statement, Governor Yusuf performed the foundation-laying ceremony on Wednesday at the proposed permanent site of the institution, located on the outskirts of the ancient city of Gaya.
The Governor emphasised that, “This institution, by the Grace of God, will serve as a hub for technical incubation, vocational excellence, and professional skills development.”
He further noted that the Polytechnic “will equip our youths with the expertise required in today’s global economy, covering fields like engineering technology, applied sciences, environmental studies, business, and many more.”
Governor Yusuf added that building the Polytechnic in Gaya is a deliberate step towards honouring the legacy of learning deeply rooted in the emirate.
“This is not merely an infrastructural project; it is a recognition of a proud people, a proud heritage, and a continued legacy of knowledge passed down by our forefathers,” he stated.
The Governor recalled that Gaya Emirate has, for centuries, been a renowned centre of Islamic scholarship with distinguished scholars across generations.
He urged residents to take ownership of the institution by safeguarding its facilities, supporting its management, and ensuring a smooth take-off for the benefit of the community and the state.
Governor Yusuf assured the people that the Polytechnic will create jobs, attract investment, and catalyze growth in Gaya and neighbouring communities.
He added that thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities will emerge, alongside practical skills training that will shape the future of the youth and strengthen the development of Kano State.
In his remarks, Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Higher Education, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, expressed appreciation for the Governor’s foresight in choosing Gaya as the location of the new Polytechnic.
He disclosed that admission into the institution will commence soon.
Also speaking, the Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, commended the present administration for executing numerous impactful projects across the emirate.
Earlier in his welcome address, Chairman of the Implementation Committee and former Vice Chancellor of Northwest University, Prof. Atiku Kurawa, revealed that the committee has worked tirelessly to ensure the institution delivers quality, recognised education and certifications.
