NAHCON Moves to Strengthen Pilgrim Health Services

In a strategic move to enhance healthcare delivery during the upcoming Hajj exercise, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has officially inaugurated the principal officers of the 2025 National Medical Team (NMT).

The ceremony took place at the Hajj House, Abuja, and was presided over by the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Professor Abdullahi Sale Usman.

This year’s inauguration comes as part of NAHCON’s comprehensive preparations for Hajj 2025, with an emphasis on improving the quality of medical services rendered to Nigerian pilgrims in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The newly appointed principal officers are expected to lead a robust, responsive, and professionally coordinated medical mission during the pilgrimage.

In his keynote address during the inauguration, Professor Abdullahi Sale Usman emphasized the critical importance of the National Medical Team, describing them as a backbone of the Commission’s welfare strategy for pilgrims. He tasked the newly appointed officers to uphold the trust placed in them with diligence, professionalism, and integrity.

“Our pilgrims deserve the best in care, comfort, and compassion. You are the first responders in their moments of need and you must carry this responsibility with honor,” he said.

Leading the team is Dr. Saidu Ahmad Dumbulwa, who was appointed as Chairman of the National Medical Committee. Alongside him are other professionals assigned to various core units, including field operations, pharmacy services, surveillance and disease control, emergency response, and coordination with international health agencies.

Dr. Dumbulwa, speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated officers, expressed appreciation to NAHCON for the confidence reposed in them and pledged that the team would work tirelessly to ensure effective service delivery throughout the Hajj operations.

NAHCON reaffirmed its collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health, relevant regulatory agencies, and state pilgrim welfare boards to ensure synergy in healthcare delivery. The Commission also highlighted plans for early deployment of personnel, adequate training, and simulation exercises before departure to Saudi Arabia.

However, the Commission stressed that this year’s medical team would focus on preventive healthcare, cardiovascular monitoring, mental wellness, and rapid emergency responses, ensuring that pilgrims remain healthy and spiritually fulfilled during their journey.

With the inauguration concluded, NAHCON is confident that the team is well-positioned to deliver on its mandate. The 2025 Hajj medical strategy signals a proactive, modern approach to public health services in pilgrim operations.

“As we move closer to the sacred season of Hajj, our priority remains the safety, health, and dignity of every Nigerian pilgrim,” Professor Usman affirmed.
