Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike , has launched a scathing attack on a newly formed coalition of opposition politicians aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), labeling the group “a gang of failed and expired politicians.”
Addressing journalists in Abuja, Wike dismissed the coalition’s takeover of the ADC as an unconvincing move by “disgruntled” political actors with no meaningful solutions for the country’s challenges.
The former Rivers State governor directly criticized several figures associated with the coalition, including former Senate President David Mark.
“David Mark said Nigerians are not happy and they want to rescue the country. But he was Senate President for eight years. Was Nigeria in paradise back then?” Wike asked.“He couldn’t deliver a single project in his hometown, Otukpo. Even his daughter lost the election under APC. So what has he really done?”
Wike also took aim at his predecessor as Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, blaming him for Nigeria’s current debt burden.
“Amaechi took Chinese loans and left us drowning in debt. And now you want to rescue Nigeria?” he queried.
Others in the opposition camp did not escape his criticism. Former Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika was questioned over the fate of the now-defunct Air Nigeria project.
“What happened to Air Nigeria under Sirika? Was that a gift to Nigerians too?” Wike asked.
He also targeted former Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami and ex-Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal.
“Malami wrote something I read today — shameful! He was AGF, what did he solve? Tambuwal was Speaker and governor. What exactly did he do to reduce Nigerian suffering?”
On former Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi, Wike claimed his defection to the ADC stemmed from a personal rift.
He said, “Abdullahi only joined the ADC because of a fallout with his political godfather, Senator Bukola Saraki.”
Despite the broadside against the coalition, Wike said the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) still had the capacity to challenge President Bola Tinubu — but only if it resolves its internal crisis.
“The truth is, if PDP fixes itself, it’s the only party that can challenge Tinubu in 2027,” he said.
